| Diving in Zilvermeer, Mol |
|
The Silverlake (or Zilvermeer in Dutch) is located in the nature park Molse Meren (Lakes of Mol) near Hasselt in Belgium. Diveschool Atlantis is located on the far side of the lake, which you can reach via the main entrance. You only have to pay the small entrance fee to the park in order to go diving. Diveschool AtlantisOnce you've reached Atlantis, you sign in with the crew. They keep an eye on the divers, and make sure that everyone returns safely. You can fill your tanks at Atlantis, or rent full dive gear. Be aware that this is a popular dive spot, with limited gear and especially limited weights available. Call beforehand or bring your own, if you want to make sure you can dive when you want. Underwater art museumOnce you have registered with the crew, you'll receive a plastic map of the 'Garden of beautiful arts', which is located underwater. You can bring this map during your dive, and use the directions to find the satues with your compass. Since this lake harbours little marine life, the statues are a very welcome additions to the lake. Compass divingDiving in Zilvermeer can be pretty demanding, especially when visibility is very low. Visibility can range from 1 to as much as 12 metres. The lake is about 18 metres deep, but most statues are located in shallow water. It is great fun to spot as many statues in one dive and to train your compass skills in the mean time. |
